Why Audition

Prospective students attend an audition before they join Arpan. The goal of the audition is to determine:

  • Eligibility
    • Is Arpan a good fit for the student and their dance goals?
    • Is the student a good cultural fit for Arpan?
  • Placement
    • Determine the applicant's skill level and a identify a program for achieving the student's goals

The audition process can be a 1-on-1 session with the faculty, or could it be through the designated Meet-and-Greet session that is held before each semester.

At Arpan, we believe in changing our instruction methods to match your learning style. Also, our Creative Director lays emphasis on deep learning, literature, poetry, mathematics and musicality of dance.

Arpan is not the right choice for you if...

  • you are interested in a cursory knowledge of dance
  • you do not have the desire to spend years mastering the art form
  • you are looking for a quick Arangetram (solo debut)

Arpan is the right choice for you if...

  • knowing the nuances of the poetry before you learn a piece excites you.
  • getting that 5 mm shift in your hasta to achieve perfection motivates you.
  • expressing your innermost feelings through personal choreography fills you with joy.
  • understanding the math, notation, and emotion behind a choreography fascinates you.
  • If laughing in class, enjoying and building a sense of compassion and empathy with other Arpanites bring you peace.

Our methodology is unique. Dr. Joyce Paul Siamak teaches performing arts from an eclectic perspective with specific emphasis on History, Literature, Architecture, Mathematics of notation, texts on Natya, Physiology and Kinesiology. While she believes this is instructionally sound methodology, it may not be the right choice for everyone.
